All students must register in the program each year.
You can register on ACORN if you are a:
- New student who has received an Offer of Admission letter from your home graduate unit. If you have conditions placed on your offer letter, you may register but your conditions must be cleared by August 31. Otherwise your registration will be cancelled.
- Continuing student who is within the time limit of your degree program.
- Student with no outstanding U of T tuition fees.
You are considered registered as soon as you have paid tuition and incidental fees or have requested to register without payment (fee deferral).
Full-time students who are the recipients of funding package can defer fees on ACORN. All other full-time students who are unable to do so can submit the Register Without Payment Form to the Graduate Office.
Part-time students cannot defer their fees.
Monday, September 1, 2022 - Recommended tuition fee payment deadline for students registering or starting their program in the Fall session to ensure payment is received by the registration deadline of September 16, and to avoid cancellation of registration and course enrolment. International students must make a payment by this date to ensure they are covered by the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) at the beginning of September.
Monday, July 18, 2022 - Registration for Fall session begins
Monday, September 12, 2022 - Most formal graduate courses and seminars begin
Friday, September 16, 2022 - Registration deadline for students registering or starting their program in the Fall (September to December) session; after this date, a late registration fee will be assessed. Minimum required payment due (unpaid fees from previous session[s] + 100% of current Fall tuition fee charges).
Friday, September 30, 2022 - Payment deadline to avoid service charges on unpaid Fall (September to December) session tuition and non-tuition fees for students registered in the Fall session only, except for those who have successfully registered without payment because they are receiving a full funding package via a research stipend, a major award or scholarship, teaching assistantships, tuition waiver, and/or sponsorships. Monthly service charges will begin accruing on October 15
Sunday, April 30, 2023 - Payment deadline to avoid service charges on unpaid Fall/Winter (September to April) session tuition and non-tuition fees for students who have successfully registered without payment because they are receiving a full funding package via a research stipend, a major award or scholarship, teaching assistantships, and/or sponsorships. Monthly service charges will begin accruing on May 15.
Students interested in taking courses outside the Department must obtain approval prior to enrolling in the course. Please complete and submit the Add/Drop Course Form to the Graduate Office for processing.
Critical dates for course enrolment and withdrawal
FALL: Monday, September 26, 2022 – Final date to add a fall session (F) and full year (Y) courses
Monday, October 31, 2022 – Final date to drop September session full or half courses without academic penalty
WINTER: Monday, January 23, 2023 – Final date to add a winter session (S) course
Monday, February 27, 2023 – Final date to drop full-year (Y) or January session (S) courses without academic penalty
