Explore a variety of internal and external award and scholarship opportunities available for international and domestic graduate students. 

All graduate students at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy are expected to apply for external awards. Students can apply for these awards in the year preceding their expected entrance into the graduate program, as well as in each year of the program.

Graduate faculty supervisors are expected to supplement external awards up to the minimum stipend level if appropriate. Students with external awards are also eligible for a Top Up award. The award is in addition to the external award and supplement.

The amounts from Department and Supervisor may vary based on the composition of the entire funding package. Please contact the Graduate Office for more information.

Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS)

Awards made possible by generous donations from Shoppers Drug Mart Inc., Patheon Inc., and the Bertha Rosenstadt Fund. Graduate scholarships are available for graduate studies in all disciplines in Ontario universities and colleges.

Canada Graduate Scholarships – Doctoral (CGS D)

The Canada Graduate Scholarships - Doctoral (CGS D) program is a federal program of scholarships awarded through national competitions by the granting agencies: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). The program aims to promote  continued excellence in Canadian research by rewarding and retaining high-calibre doctoral students at Canadian institutions. By providing support for a high-quality research training experience to awardees, the CGS D program strives to foster impacts within and beyond the research environment.

Canada Graduate Scholarships – Master’s (CGS M)

The objective of the Canada Graduate Scholarships-Master’s (CGS M) Program is to help develop research skills and assist in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of achievement in undergraduate and early graduate studies.

Rx&D Health Research Foundation – Canadian Institute of Health Research Scholarship

To be eligible for this award, candidates must be pursuing graduate studies at any Canadian Faculty of Pharmacy. The program is open to Canadian citizens or landed immigrants. The award is tenable only in Canadian schools of pharmacy.

National Cancer Institute of Canada (NCIC)

The National Cancer Institute of Canada offers a limited number of research studentships (supported by the Terry Fox Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society) to outstanding PhD students who plan a career in cancer research in Canada. Applicants must be residents of Canada, and have completed at least two years of research training at the graduate level.

Addiction Research Foundation Research Training Awards

Applicants for a Research Training Award must secure the agreement of an Addiction Research Foundation scientist to act as supervisor for a mutually agreed upon research program.

The Hospital for Sick Children’s Research Training Programs

This program provides research-training opportunities for students who are pursuing either a Masters or Doctoral degree in any biomedical science. Trainees must be registered in a graduate program at the University of Toronto. The supervisor must hold a graduate appointment at the University of Toronto and be a qualified staff member of the Hospital. All work must be carried out under the supervision of the Hospital for Sick Children supervisor.

Departmental Awards

Current Full-time MSc and PhD students who have achieved an A- (3.7/4 or 80%) in each of the last two years are eligible to compete for the Departmental Awards or the Clinical, Social and Administrative Pharmacy Professors’ Award. Preference will be given to students who are within the funded cohort. The awards competition will be announced annually in the Spring. Applicants must submit their applications to the Graduate Office.

The Queen Elizabeth II – Graduate Scholarship in Science & Technology (QEII-GSST) – $15,000

Major funding for these awards are provided by Pfizer Canada and the Merck Foundation. The Ontario Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology is designed to encourage excellence in graduate studies in science and technology. The program is supported through funds provided by the Province of Ontario and by funds raised by the University of Toronto from the private sector. Applicants must be either Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

Connaught International Scholarships Doctoral Students

The Connaught scholarship is an entrance scholarship for students with outstanding academic record, who are entering a research-oriented graduate program at the University of Toronto.

Shaping Student Life and Learning

The Shaping Student Life and Learning Fund (SSLL) was established through the generous annual donations of alumni, industry, friends, faculty and staff of the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy. Each year, funds are available to students at the Faculty in support of various events, activities, campaigns and initiatives that enrich the student experience.
