Postdoctoral Fellow (Guilcher Lab) - Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy

Hip fractures are serious injuries and a major public health concern. Recovery from hip fractures is complex and requires multiple care transitions. Hip fractures are associated with high rates of medical complications, and multimorbidity. However, there has been minimal research on hospital and medication-related harm and its impact on care trajectories post-hip fracture. Using a social determinants of health and equity lens, our team is leading a multi-year mixed methods research program to better understand care delivery, transitions of care, and outcomes post-hip fracture.

To achieve these goals, we are seeking a post-doctoral fellow for a one-year contract (possibility for renewal) to join our team. The successful Fellow will work under the supervision of Dr. Sara Guilcher at the Optimizing Health and Healthcare Experiences (OPTI-Hex) Laboratory within the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto. The OPTI-Hex Lab conducts applied health services research with a focus on improving care, experiences, and overall health and well-being for individuals with health and social care needs. The OPTI-Hex team leverages the intersection of rehabilitation sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, social sciences, and implementation sciences.

The main project for the Fellow will be leveraging ICES data related to hospital and medication-related harms, hip fracture care transitions, and outcomes, with the possibility to contribute to other research project opportunities. The duties will include, but are not limited to: designing, planning and interpreting administrative health data analyses (methods and statistical plans) with the study research team and analyst at ICES. The candidate will work collaboratively with the ICES analyst and investigators to develop, revise and re-direct the analysis as necessary; assisting with designing and writing methods, analytical plans, preparing statistical output tables, reviewing and interpreting data output, summarizing results, writing papers and presenting research scholarship through knowledge translation activities.

The successful candidate will have a promising research track record during their PhD as evidenced by published high impact work using large datasets, and/or statistics. Experience working with ICES administrative data is considered to be an asset. The successful candidate will be expected to have strong communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
