The Pharmacy Department at Unity Health Toronto has a mission to provide comprehensive, seamless, and patient-centered care to all patients and family we serve to improve quality and safety of their mediation therapy through collaboration, education, leadership, and innovation.
The upstream lab is a non-profit research lab affiliated with St. Michael's hospital. It is committed to improving health and wellbeing of population through addressing social determinates of health. The research pharmacist would support research and clinical trials at Upstream lab. The Pharmacy Department at Unity Health Toronto will be involved with supervising and supporting the Research Pharmacist role from a professional practice perspective.
The CanTreatCOVID study is an adaptive platform trial to evaluate the out-patient therapeutics for COVID. We are currently looking for a Full-time Research Pharmacist to support this national adaptive platform trial.
Experience with research involving primary care, or health Canada regulated trials is an asset. Specific activities of this project will include:
- Full spectrum medication specialist assuming the critical roles of screening, medications review and confirming eligibility, collaborating with study investigators, patient follow up and incident management.
- Standard dispensary staff pharmacist duties, including reviewing medical orders, dispensing prescriptions, inventory management, documentation, custodian of Personal Health Information
- Perform preliminary assessment of patients, to identify those requiring more intensive monitoring or pharmaceutical care throughout the study
- Establishing dialogue or development of professional relationships with patient or site¿s investigators (e.g., through medication history/reconciliation, drug allergy verification, patient medication teaching)
- Manages required record-keeping, shipping, ordering, and inventory activities
- Ensures the accuracy and integrity of products prior to their delivery to trial subjects
- Ensures compliance with all applicable Health Canada, governmental, and sponsor regulations, laws and policies related to the conduct of the CanTreatCOVID trial
- Maintains records to meet sponsor requirements, HC regulations and legal requirements for pharmacy operations
- Assist in review of medication incidents for root causes when assigned
- Assess and help to solve identified problems, discrepancies and inefficiencies with the drug distribution system;
- Liaise with other study staff to ensure delivery and availability of medications for patients
- Ensure availability for on-call to answer drug information questions
- Team-based care in an evolving model of care where direct communication with both providers and patients occurs daily
- Interaction with study team members, including research assistants, research coordinators, site's investigators
- Compassionate provider that is comfortable providing virtual care
Qualifications
- Registered Pharmacist Part A good standing with Ontario College of Pharmacists
- Minimum of two years of pharmacist experience
- Experience with research involving primary care, or health Canada regulated trials is an asset.
- This role is a 9-month contract until May 2024, with possibility of extension.
