A much anticipated and celebrated milestone for PharmD students, the annual Induction Ceremony officially welcomes First Year students in the PharmD program to the profession of pharmacy. As part of the ceremony, students take an official pledge of professionalism and don the distinguished white coats of pharmacy for the first time.
“Induction ceremonies are a symbolic introduction into our profession. They represent the significance of entering a professional community,” said Natalie Crown, Director of the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Program, Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy. “The donning of a white coat today for members of the class of 2T5 symbolizes your entry into the professional community of pharmacy. May this serve as a symbol of our duty to care, and the trust your patients and community have in you,” she said.
Dean Lisa Dolovich also welcomed students to the profession and offered a vision for the future pharmacists who have contributed significantly to the COVID-19 pandemic response. “In this moment, there is a renewed opportunity for leadership across healthcare, for pharmacists to take our experiences and lessons learned and be part of reimagining the future of care across our communities and turn the challenges we’ve faced into opportunities for action centred on building, empowering, and sustaining healthy societies.”
Attended by leaders across pharmacy practice, the ceremony included recognizing the 2021 Alumni Awards Hall of Distinction recipient, Regis Vaillancourt. While Vaillancourt could not attend in person, he offered these words of inspiration to the class of 2T5:
