Admission Interviews – for admission in September 2018

Interviews are an important component of the PharmD admissions process in that they provide an assessment of non-academic qualities essential for candidates to effectively undertake the PharmD curriculum and go on to become valued front-line healthcare professionals.

Applicants who meet minimum academic requirements and the required thresholds in the Pharmacy College Admission Test will be invited to the Faculty to participate in an interview session.

Interview Dates

  • Saturday, March 24, 2018
  • Sunday, March 25, 2018
  • Saturday, May 5, 2018 (preference given for this date to out-of-province candidates who select it as their first choice on the application)

Applicants are advised to hold all of the published dates until interview confirmations are provided to applicants early in March. There will be no alternative dates for interviews, and applicants must attend their scheduled interview. All interviews will take place at the Leslie L. Dan Pharmacy Building in Toronto, Ontario. No exceptions will be made. Interview notices, along with relevant information related to procedures on the interview day, will be posted on the Applicant website.

As part of the application process, applicants are asked to rank their interview date preferences. However, given the number of applicants and limited interview times, the Faculty cannot guarantee that you will be scheduled per your preferences. If you cannot attend an interview on one or more of the interview dates due to religious observances or imperative personal commitments, you must indicate the conflict on your application form by selecting the ‘not available’ option.  Note that the May interview date will have limited spaces available and preference will be given to candidates from outside the province who selected May as their first choice on the application.

Candidates selected for an interview must attend on the date and at the time specified on their notification. Failure to attend the interview at the scheduled time will disqualify the applicant from admission consideration. Candidates are responsible for making appropriate travel and accommodation arrangements and should keep this in mind when indicating preferences for interview dates on the application form.

Interview Format

Admissions interviews at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy follow the Multiple-Mini Interview (MMI) format. In this type of interview, candidates participate in approximately 8 to 10 short interviews that are 6-7 minutes in length. Outside each interview station, candidates will be given 2 minutes to read a question or scenario, and will then enter the interview station to discuss or enact their response to that question or situation. Candidates are guided by volunteers from one interview station to the next. At each station there will be a different assessor (interviewer) who may be a pharmacist, faculty member, student, or member of another group. Each interview station will assess one or more non-academic attributes. The non-academic attributes being assessed may include, but will not necessarily be limited to:

  • Conscientiousness
  • Accountability
  • Problem solving
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Ethical reasoning
  • Communication  skills
  • Leadership
  • Resilience
