Student Accident Insurance

For students who volunteer at worksites outside of required course and placements:

Student Accident Insurance

Students of the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy are eligible for Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) coverage of claims while on unpaid placements as required by their program of study. However, students who volunteer at a site at other times outside of the required placements would not be eligible for coverage. In these situations, a student may wish to consider the following.

The Ontario Pharmacists Association (OPA) offers Student Accident Insurance to provide coverage similar to WSIB.  The premium for this insurance is $20 per month plus 8% RST.

The insurance is available to current members of OPA.  If you are not a current member, you may apply for membership online  https://www.opatoday.com/professional/membership/become-a-member/student

Access to the Student Accident insurance application on OPA’s website is available to current members only.

Also, as a member you may view the Student Accident Plan Details https://www.opatoday.com/professional/insurance/programs-and-forms/student-accident

If you wish to apply for the insurance, fax the completed application to OPA to the fax number on the application.

Student accident insurance effective date is the first of a month, applications received after the first of a month will have the coverage effective date stated as the first of the month for which coverage was requested.  On receipt of the application OPA will have it processed and a copy of the certificate of insurance and payment receipt will be emailed to you within two business days.

For any other questions, contact OPA at 416-441-0788 (2), 1-877-341-07888 (2) or insurance@opatoday.com
